I was born the eldest of three boys, my father Ernest (Ernie), spent most of his life as a toolmaker in the local cycle factory, who spent the World War Two in the Royal Navy, serving in the Gunner Branch.
But, my father was to pass into the World of Light at the early age of 46 through cancer. Nevertheless, my younger brother Stuart and members of my family are avid follower of my spiritual work, going to the local Spiritualist Church, Nottingham 1st on Derby Road, Nottingham, England.

Time seems to slip by, so quickly. I remember well some good, and some not so good days, which have now faded into the faculty of my memory. Yet, all thoughts are held within the interactive characteristic of our mind, as we travel through the movement of life. When in a reflective mood, I often look back to those far off days, when I was a small boy. The elderly amongst us may perhaps remember the winter of 1947; it proved to be a particularly bitter and harsh one. The winter was followed by a very hot and dry summer. On the 13th of August I entered into this world in the district of Lenton in Nottingham.
My early childhood memories are of life in a changing climate after the end of the 2nd World War, very much a topic of conversation for local people. I have fond and affectionate memories of my young days with my grandfather, and remember happy days of childhood bliss. Grandfather John Alfred Hutchinson, passed from this life on my 13th birthday. I remember being awoken in the late evening by my Uncle Jock. For the first time in my life I felt the sadness and loss, we all feel, when losing a loved one. Uncle Jock had moved to Nottingham whilst serving in the British Army in 1943. He was to guard 'Italian Prisoners of War', held captive, at the local park in Wollaton, a district of the city where I live today. Good old Uncle Jock married my Aunt Rowey. I can still remember the tales of his mother, Mrs Blair who lived in Glasgow, Scotland. Mrs Blair was a famous Spiritual Medium in her own right. I only met her once, yet I still have a mental picture of this very small, smartly dressed lady in navy blue. Nevertheless, she was to be a person who has left a lifetime impression, carried on until this day. I didn’t know that the day I saw her, she was about to take a public meeting of Mediumship at a Nottinghamshire Spiritualist Church. Little did I realise that in the years to come I was also to follow the same pathway.
Throughout my childhood I was inspired by my father, little surprise that at just 15 years of age I followed his footsteps. Like my Dad I also joined the Royal Navy. I enlisted at the boys training ship HMS Ganges in October 1962. By January 1972 I had travelled the world, served for five years onboard HMS Eagle and her sister ship HMS Ark Royal the largest aircraft carriers in the Royal Navy. I also served on shore establishments and HMS Centaur before leaving the Navy to enter into civilian world. What a change! Civilian life, as all past service men and women know, is a difficult adjustment to make. So it was not long before a career in self-employment eventually lead me into the world of training and development, here I was to gain skills in management and corporate development. I ended up with my own business consultancy and training practice.
Throughout my life the “Spiritual” has never been far away. Past experiences and awareness of the interaction of the two-worlds being a natural process. Gradually I felt more and more drawn to something - but what was it? Perhaps my ideas and visions were only for me alone. But, the Spirit World often works in mysterious ways and by hook, or by crook when the time comes to serve, the right doors will open, and so they did! It was through the landscape of a dream I saw my father after his early death from cancer. He said to me “please, never, ever worry about me”. He concluded, “I am in a far better place and all of the pain has gone”. I assured him I would never worry again – immediately I returned at a speed faster than light, and instantly awoke. To this day I have never worried about him or the moment we must all leave this world.
Now I often see my dad through the state know as “objective clairvoyance” this will occur before, or during a public demonstration. It is a great comfort to know he supports my spiritual work, and helps the cause of supporting other people. With the difficulties of settling down to civilian life I had ventured into a career in self-employment. Before I became involved in training and business consultancy I spent time in the family businesses, which culminated in working in the fruiterers and florist trade. My Aunt Rowey was the ideal person to work alongside; she had always wanted to be involved in the fruit trade. She was such a very special, kind and thoughtful person. One afternoon she whispered to my wife Linda “I’ve been to a marvellous medium in Radford”. Well my ears pricked up. In no time we had asked Aunt Rowey to make an appointment for the three of us to go to see him at his house. I had been on a path, or at least seeking a path of self-awareness and was still contemplating what I felt were my “my own ideas”. The door was about to open, when Aunt Rowey led us to the home of a local Nottingham Spiritual Medium - Steve Tomlinson. Linda was first into Steve Tomlinson’s front room, leaving Aunt Rowey and I to talk to his wife. I was half listening to Nottingham Forest’s European Football final, when Linda came out of the front room and I was ushered in. The room was small, with subdued lighting, but for the first time, I met someone who was different, a genuine man and a true "Spiritual Medium".
Steve Tomlinson was a round, elderly man with a great warmth and kindness about him. To me he shone, like a light, he had peace around and about him. I knew this was the man I was destined to meet – I knew it as soon as I saw him! I must have been the worlds worst person for a private sitting – all I wanted to do was ask about him about his spiritual work, his life and to fire questions about the spirit world. One piece of advice was “Never follow my path; it is fraught with disappointment and loneliness”. The trouble was, the path I was seeking was the pathway he was on, and you have to follow your destiny - yet I am never lonely. I have always been blessed with my wonderful Spirit Guides. My Guides are never far away, if things are not so good, they soon lift me up - telling me not to worry and show me someone who’s far worse off!
Aunt Rowey was the last to go in, though she wasn’t with Steve Tomlinson for long. We were soon outside and with a story to tell each other. Just around the corner was the Pheasant Inn, a Public House and the lounge bar was the ideal place to talk. First to speak was Linda, full of praise for Steve Tomlinson he had picked up information from her father who had passed with lung cancer in 1973, two years after my Dad. After the birth of our second son David, on the 17th of October 1978 Linda had found it difficult to come to term with losing her father Fred. Our eldest son Paul was born on the 28th November 1978, Steve Tomlinson confirmed this – but more importantly he gave evidence from the Spirit World about Fred's time onboard the Royal Navy Battlecruiser HMS Hood. Tragically only three survivors were picked up in the North Atlantic, when the Hood was sunk by the German Battleship Bismarck. Fred never spoke much about the war he said that he lost too many friends. I always found that strange my Dad had also served, ironically being torpedoed twice in one day, and survived convoy duty in the Battle of the North Atlantic and the Russian Convoys. Linda’s elderly Uncle Cyril was a lifetime friend of her Father. He confirmed that Fred had joined the Royal Navy with a large group of young men, trained with them, and they all joined their first ship together – HMS Hood. The day before the ship sailed Fred was taken off the ship and drafted to Plymouth, later to join another ship HMS Rodney - the ship ironically involved in the subsequent sinking of the Battleship Bismarck. Fred being a quiet and introverted man, he kept to himself his sad memories and taking them with him, when he entered into the World of Light.
Aunt Rowey was to receive no information from Steve Tomlinson, there was nothing coming through for her. Sadly, she took ill; cancer was diagnosed and in February the following year she moved into the World of Light. Each of the three us had an account from one truly Spiritual Medium. For Aunt Rowey there was no message. Please do not ever think that by not getting a spirit message there is anything to worry about – if there is no message, then there is no message. Steve Tomlinson gave the truth he didn’t make up a story just to please, he was honest and his Mediumship has stood the test of time, for both Linda and I.
This is a lesson for all people who wish to develop their own personal spiritual gifts. What did Steve Tomlinson do? He gave absolute proof of survival of death to Linda. To me, he gave direction, purpose and above all, put me on my own pathway of spiritual destiny. With Aunt Rowey he gave one of the most valuable gifts of true Mediumship – truth, honesty and integrity. This meeting with Steve Tomlinson though brief, turned out to be watershed that would lead me to the International Spiritual Medium and Healer - Jack Corbett of Leicester. I sat for “Spiritual Unfoldment and Development” under the guidance of Jack for nine years. My first public demonstration with Jack was in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire at Dallas Street Spiritualist Church in late October 1982.
Jack was always a tough taskmaster. After taking a public demonstration Jack would tell where I had gone wrong, how to improve, whom I passed messages to, or whether there was a break in either the philosophy, or the clairvoyance. It seems simple, but not so when you think that at many of my meetings he could be in Leicester, I could be in Newcastle or Salisbury. Jack Corbett was a master and the most highly developed medium I have even had the privilege to meet. I travelled to Jack’s home every Friday evening for exactly nine years. 28 miles either way may not appear too much, but Jack would always say: “Even if you are gifted, you still need dedication, effort and you have to put the time in – if you do the spirit world will back you in abundance - never forget that the gift, is for others and not yourself”. Jack Corbett trained me for the “Public Platform” handing over to me the Presidency of the unfoldment group “The Golden Circle of Spiritual Light” in 1990.
Golden Circle simply means “The Sun by Day and the Moon by Night - Perpetual Light”. Jack passed through the gates of eternity and into the World of Light on Friday July 21st 1991 - we had lost one of our truly greatest Spiritual Mediums and Healers. I have now been working and training from the public platform for nearly 30 years, both throughout and beyond the United Kingdom. Now I am able to bring together the skills attained as a member of a professionally recognised training body, The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, with the many years of experience gained from Jack Corbett my Spiritual Teacher, Mentor and friend.
My philosophy’s simple is very much based on “common-sense” an approach to combining the natural spiritual energy forces with the everyday problems of material life.
